Congregational Library & Archives

Chesapeake Bible College & Seminary recommends the Congregational Library & Archives, 14 Bacon Street, Boston, MA 02108 (607) 523-0470. There are over 225,000 titles available to students. When you order books from the Congregational Library, please be as specific as possible. You should mention the author, book title and/or topic. For example, instead of requesting “Pastoral Counseling”, ask for “Pastoral Counseling with the Aged”. You may keep their books for four weeks from the day you receive them. Renewals can be had by letter or phone if no other reader is waiting for the book you wish to renew.

Chesapeake Bible College & Seminary recommends the BibleStudyTools.com website as a good Library Resource for Bible Studies.  The site allows an individual to do an in depth Bible study using various translations, interlinear Bibles, commentaries, concordances, dictionaries, lexicons (Greek/Hebrew), sermon helps, church history and other resources.

Chesapeake Bible College & Seminary recommends Christianity Today magazine as site for several major Christian resources.  Christianity Today offers coverage of the Church in the world today. It informs, counsels, and challenges readers with interviews, feature articles, thoughtful essays and much more, providing commentary, interviews with leading Christian thinkers, and theological analysis on current issues, trends, people and news events that impact people of faith.

Chesapeake Bible College & Seminary recommends ChristianAnswers.net as a site devoted to answering any question which the Christian may have regarding his/her faith as it relates to issues today. They cover abortion, archaeology, The Bible, creation/evolution, dinosaurs, governments, etc. This site is supported by Eden Communications (Films for Christ) and their videos can be purchased online.

World Religions Index

Chesapeake Bible College & Seminary recommends the World Religions Index.  The site, World Religious Index, has five major index titled: Personal Pages, Articles, Table One – Christianity and cults compared. Table Two – Christianity and the major religions compared. Other Sites – deal with world religions and religious philosophies.

Blue Letter Bible

Chesapeake Bible College & Seminary recommends BlueLetterBible.org.  The site is great for word studies and the number of definitions is amazing.  Blue Letter Bible provides powerful tools for an in-depth study of God’s Word through their free online reference library, with study tools that are grounded in the historical, conservative Christian faith.

Early Jewish Writing

For early Jewish Writings studies, Chesapeake Bible College & Seminary recommends EarlyJewishWritings.com website. Early Jewish Writings is the most complete collection of Jewish documents from antiquity with translations, introductions, and links. The site has a wealth of writings written by Jews plus the Old Testament writings.

Early Christian Writings

For early Christian Writings studies, Chesapeake Bible College & Seminary recommends the EarlyChristianWritings.com website. This site has more books than you could imagine. It seems to have all of the books in the two books titled “The Other Bible” edited by Willis Barnstone [1984] and “The Lost Books of the Bible and The Forgotten Books of Eden” originally published by Alpha House, Inc. 1926 and 1927 reissued by Word Bible Publishers.

YouVersion is a free Bible on your phone, tablet, and computer. YouVersion is a simple, ad-free Bible that brings God’s Word into your daily life.  The Bible is also available as an app for your smart phone. When the Bible is always with you, it becomes a part of your daily life.

E-Sword

E-Sword.com is a free Bible software site with 75 plus public domain books which can be downloaded for free. e-Sword is a fast and effective way to study the Bible. e-Sword is feature rich and user friendly with more capabilities than you would expect in a free Bible study app. The fact that e-Sword is free is just one of the blessings and does not speak of the quality of the app.

CrossWire Bible Society

CrossWire Bible Society offers free Bible software online.  CrossWire offers a huge and rapidly growing electronic library of Bibles, commentaries, devotional and general books, maps and much more, in many different languages.

Wordsearch Bible

WORDsearch allows you to quickly search for Bible verses, compare Bible translations side-by-side, have multiple books open, and sync your Bible translations with your commentaries. You won’t have to continuously flip through pages, and you’ll be able to take your library anywhere without bringing a backpack full of books.  If you are just getting started, WORDsearch Basic is for you. It’s FREE and comes loaded with some basic Bible study tools. Plus, you’ll find over 200 more free books available for download.
