WHY CHOOSE CBCS?
Chesapeake Bible College & Seminary is a non-denominational, correspondence Bible College. We are a faith based ministry started by the late Dr. William Comfort, and in operation for 45+ years now, with the vision of taking Christian Education off the top shelf and making it available for the everyday person who is pursuing God’s plan for their life.

OUR VISION:
There was a time in our country when the Church was recognized for the educational responsibility that it shouldered. The Church was better able to manage the task of equipping the saints for the work of the ministry when schools were part of the local church. Gradually, the stewardship of Christian education shifted to other, secular, organizations. With this shift, the local church lost much of its authority – both educational and spiritual – and the vitality of Christian education also begun to decline. Today many of the former bastions of Christian orthodoxy are weak and lacking in authority and relevance.
We believe the Lord has given Chesapeake Bible College & Seminary the keys with which to unlock numerous “doors” for Christian learners, make deferred dreams come true, and assist the Church in recapturing the mantle of responsibility for the education of its members. One of these keys is the ability to grant degrees. Many Bible institutes and Bible schools across the nation have wonderful programs, but they cannot legally grant degrees. Since 1989,Chesapeake Bible College & Seminary has had the ability to network with such schools by accepting their graduates as degree candidates. In addition, multitudes of Christians have a great many credits from other, less formal, types of religious and spiritual training, but they have had few choices for obtaining a degree. Chesapeake Bible College & Seminary is in a position to evaluate their transcripts and resumes to assist them in obtaining a degree, if at all possible.
Another key is affordability. In his original thinking, Dr. Comfort envisioned a school that would “take Christian education off the top shelf and make it available for everyone.” The College has done just that, reducing the cost of a Christian education by an average of 75% or more. This is possible because Chesapeake Bible College & Seminary does not maintain a traditional college campus. Instead, the College establishes Schools of Ministry within local churches that enter into an affiliation agreement, thereby eliminating the need for numerous buildings and a large staff and faculty.
Still another key is the ability to unlock the potential of the local church. Chesapeake Bible College & Seminary has developed a program that brings a School of Ministry to the local church, regardless of the church’s size. Schools of Ministry are designed to train new workers to share in the pastor’s God-given vision for ministry and helps fulfill the teaching of Ephesians 4:11. In addition, the College has developed an Office of External Studies, to assist those who wish to earn a degree through correspondence. Under this system, students do not have to leave their jobs and uproot their families to attend a school far away from their home. Instead, they are able to study locally, continue their normal lives, and become greater assets to their local church. Thus, the student gains an education and the local church retains future leaders.
OUR MISSION:
Networking with the Body of Christ Worldwide Strengthening the hands of God’s under-shepherds.
Enabling students to earn degrees in Bible and Ministry related Subjects.
The mission of Chesapeake Bible College & Seminary is three-fold:
First
…the College aggressively pursues networking with the Body of Christ worldwide. This includes establishing network links with denominations, missionary societies, church organizations, Bible institutes, and Bible schools. We recognize that no one in the Body of Christ “has it all” when it comes to ministry, but we also recognize that each believer has a part of the whole by which we can supply what other parts lack. Chesapeake Bible College & Seminary is committed to serving as a unifying link as we help break down the walls that divide the body of Christ. By helping people earn a degree, we help make their dreams come true.
Second
…the College seeks to strengthen the hands of God’s under-shepherds
Finally
…the College enables students, regardless of their life situation or daily schedule, the opportunity to earn a degree in Bible- and ministry-relate
